Scuba Weight Calculator

If you're a new scuba diver, or it's just been a while since you've been in the water, figuring out how much weight you should use before you go scuba diving can be stressful. One of the most common questions I hear divers ask when I go on a dive trip and we're getting our gear set up is, "How much weight should I add?" or "How much weight do you think I should use?"

Now, there are a LOT of things that go into the exact amount of weight you need for scuba diving. However, there are some general guidelines to give you an estimate to start with.

Below is a scuba diving weight calculator, or estimator if you will, that gives you a rough idea of how much weight to start with. You should still do a weight check, or buoyancy check, because this buoyancy calculator isn't something that will be 100% accurate. You should use it to get an estimate of where to start and then adjust from there as needed.

Feel free to share and bookmark this page to reference it on your phone when you're on your next dive trip or at the dive site.

Disclaimer: This calculator estimates the amount of weight you may want to use while scuba diving. It is not 100% accurate and is just a good starting point for most people on average based on the PADI Weighting Guidelines. Proper weight checks and buoyancy checks are still required, and this should only be used by certified divers who understand and accept the risks of scuba diving. Any accidents resulting from over or under weighting yourself while scuba diving should not hold this calculator, Thomas Hughes, or CircleHScuba LLC responsible.
